I have to agree with the other reader-- that surprise twist at the end of 110 (the freeway, not the page) was so unexpected! It's true, every page tells a story, and you absolutely won't believe 767 E5.

Maurice Bishop Speaks: The Grenada Revolution and Its Overthrow 1979-83
Published in Paperback by Pathfinder Press (December, 1983)
Authors: Bruce Marcus, Michael Taber, and Maurice Bishop
Average review score:

From Malcolm X to socialist revolutioary
This is the story of a big revolution in a very small country. In 1979 the movement led by Maurice Bishop overthrew the local dictator of Greneda, one E.Gairy.Land reform, free education and health care, new forms of working people's power to replace outdated parliamentary "democracy" which led to the dictator in the first place, development of agriculture and tourism as national industries to benefit the workers and farmers instead of superrich foreign bosses : all this inevitablely infuriated Washington D.C. But most of all they feared and loathed the fact that Grenada marched alongside the other anti-capitalist revolutions in the region : in Cuba and Nicaragua.Read this book and find out why Fidel Castro said "Cuba, Nicaragua and Grenada are three giants rising up in the Carribean."Perhaps most interesting for fighters against the profit system in this country is the story of the evolution of Bishop and his comrades : from Carribean followers of Malcolm X to socialist revolutionaries. The Stalinist coup that assasinated Bishop and opened the door to Reagan and the Democrats' bipartisan brutal invasion in 1983 is also well covered here.Others in the Carribean will take the same road during the new Great Depression looming in our ( workers' and farmers' ) future.

Maurice Bishop's Imperishable Legacy
Advertisements for cruises and holidays to Grenada describe this Caribbean island as a place where "nothing much ever happens". The truth could not be more different. Less than 20 years ago Maurice Bishop led a popular revolution there that lasted for three and a half years and involved Grenada's working people of town and countryside in transforming their society and lives. The Grenada Revolution's giant strides in popular education, economic production, slashing unemployment, and developing national pride and internationalism, are graphically detailed in this outstanding book of Bishop's speeches that were made in the course of the revlutionary years. Bishop and the people of Grenada wrote an imperishable chapter in world history. The speeches address not just the situation of one small island, but the entire world faced with the crisis of capitalism that has sharpened greatly in the past two decades. This book is also valuable for the introductory analysis by Steve Clark of how the revolution was overthrown from within with the murder of Bishop and other revolutionary leaders in October 1983, plus indispensable documents from the Cuban government and speeches by Fidel Castro on Cuba's role in supporting the revolution.

Mmmmiami: Tempting Tropical Tastes for Home Cooks Everywhere
Published in Hardcover by Henry Holt & Company, Inc. (October, 1998)
Authors: Carole Kotkin, Kathy Martin, and Martin Kotkin
Average review score:

I am cooking my way through now. Love the flavors..
We've been cooking the pork dishes with the salsas and chutneys. Easy to do several at a time and have nice summer food without reheating the kitchen. An even better collection than I first thought.

Delicious recipes/intriguing text give readers a taste of FL
As a former Miamian now living in Virginia, reading this wonderful new book was like taking a trip to my hometown. It has many delicious recipes that seem to me to capture the true essence of tropical cuisine. Try making the Hot and Tangy Black Bean Dip for an easy (and low fat) snack that will wake up your taste buds.I prepared the Calabazas and Sweet Potato Soup for company and received raves reviews from my guests. It's really simple to make and everyone will think you worked all day cooking it.Mmmmiami also offers the reade an interesting history of the growth of So. Florida and the influence that the influx of Latin tourists, businesspeople and immigrants have had on the culture. The book's witty and clever text explains why tropical cuisine is now the hottest food trend sweeping the country.I think this wonderful book should be a staple (like black beans and rice)in the house of any serious cook. I recommend Mmmmiami highly.

A beautiful book from a true food professional.
A wonderful book if I still lived in Miami. The availability of some of the products might be limited to Florida and major metropolitan areas. I would love Carole to publish something from her early cooking classes. I rely on those recipes on a regular basis.

The Montana Cowboy: Legends of the Big Sky Country
Published in Hardcover by Stoecklein Pub (August, 1998)
Authors: David R. Stoecklein, Patrick Dawson, Dave Powell, and David Powell
Average review score:

Outstanding, insightful photos
Stoecklein's use of shading and shadow in his photography in this book really capture the Montana spirit. My wife, a born and bread Montana gal, really loved this book. She was really moved by some of the pictures. This is really a great book for the die-hard Montana resident (and you know who you are...) and anyone who likes the spirit of the northwest.

GOOD BOOK!!!!
I thought that this book really captures the aura of Montana. I believe that only the truth is seen when looking at these pictures. Coming from a ranch here in Montana, I only see a lifestyle and a way of living and I think that many people that don't have the same oppurtunities to see what I see everyday, can see it in the pictures of this book.

Excellent
The photographs make this book. I have never visited a ranch, but I now feel like I have. "The Montana Cowboy" shows the real working life of the American cowboy, not the fluffy romantic stuff that comes out of Hollywood. This book offered me the chance to experience the realities of ranching first-hand. It holds a prominent place on my bookshelf, and it is well worth the buy.

Mountain Bike! TX and Oklahoma: A Guide to Classical Trails
Excellent map/manual for someone with stamina for mountain biking. Intresting geographiacal, geological, meteorological information with incredible personal touch and wonderful pictures. I recommend this book to any audience. This book is even good on rainy days to crawl in bed with-good reading. You'll love it! Besides, you want to see the baby picture of Chuck on a wooden horse, he is adorable! Those dimples and ray in the corners of his cutest eyes....

Awesome trail guide for Oklahoma and Texas
Since I am the author I think this is the best trail guide book on the market for my two favorite states, Oklahoma and Texas. I worked my ...off on this project, it is the second guide book I have done about mountain biking in these two states, actually the second edition of the same book.

I had such a blast working on this project but was quite glad to see it finished. Now I have a blast going back and rereading it and remembering what fun I had while out on research trips. Most were a pleasure, I got to meet some great folks and do some very excellent riding, though there were a few trips that bordered on miserable due to bad weather or general fatigue on my part as I neared the end of traveling for research.

My hat is off to the many bike clubs and excellent shops I encountered along the way, and all the super people who helped me complete this project.

Thanx to you all, hope to see you and ride again soon.

Mrs. Kennedy Goes Abroad
Published in Hardcover by Artisan (October, 1998)
Authors: Jacqueline Duheme, John Kenneth Galbraith, and Vibhuti Patel
Average review score:

Utterly charming and delightful
As an ardent admirer of Mrs. Kennedy for the past 40 years, I have read every book on her that I could get my hands on. "Mrs. Kennedy Goes Abroad" is a refreshing change from the repetitive narratives and recycled photos that are the mainstay of so many other books about her life. Ms. Duheme's illustrations are elegant and sumptuous but also embrace a childlike purity and simplicity which capture the essence of Mrs. Kennedy's persona and mystique. The commentary has the simple charm of a beautifully written children's book. It is obvious why Mrs. Kennedy chose Ms. Duheme to accompany her on her more memorable trips abroad as First Lady. A truly enchanting book.

For Fashionistas Who Like to Travel
Mrs. Kennedy Goes Abroad is an adorable little book filled with colorful Fauvist-like illustrations. Anyone who likes Laura Stoddart's simple-chic illustrations for Kate Spade will probably enjoy this book. Fans of the recent exhibition at the Met that highlighted Jackie's White House clothes may appreciate it too. The commentary is kept to a minimum and black and white photos from Mrs. Kennedy's travels are included, but the focus is on French artist Duheme's amusing miniature paintings that capture Jackie in all those great pink sleeveless dresses and crisp suits in Paris, India, London and Italy.

As a side note: Duheme and Jacqueline Kennedy became friends who shared similar painting styles, and Duheme was invited to Cape Cod to give the First Lady an art lesson.

A delightful book for Jackie fans
"Mrs. Kennedy Goes Abroad" is a beautiful book. The illustrations are lovely to look at, and the book is fun to read. A good choice for anyone to add to their library; especially recommended for those interested in the Kennedys and Jackie in particular. Evokes the fun mood of Jackie's scrapbook written with her sister Lee, "One Special Summer".

My Peaceful Forest : Reflections on Life in Pacific Grove
Published in Paperback by Gallagher Press (04 January, 2001)
Authors: Elaine Breen and Linda Breen Pierce
Average review score:

Can't Wait for the Next Installment!!!
Elaine's writing makes you laugh and cry and wish you were sitting with her in the park! I had to put the book down so I wouldn't finish the whole book the first day!

Hilarious
"My Peaceful Forest" is hilarious! Give yourself a treat and turn off that computer and cell phone for an hour, and I guarantee you will smile all the way through this refreshing book. If we all viewed life through the eyes of this author, society would be stress-free indeed! It's easy to relate to the lighthearted memoirs of this REAL family. Elaine Breen epitomizes the phrase, "stop and smell the roses".

My Peaceful Forest
I could not put My Peaceful Forest by Elaine Breen down until I had read the entire book! Whether you're a resident of Pacific Grove, California, or not, Elaine's insight and humor will keep you turning the pages. My Peaceful Forest will make you smile, will tug at your heart a little but mainly is a simple tale of life and it's ups and downs from a Mother's, Grandmother's, and Wife's perspective.

Nevada
Published in Hardcover by Graphic Arts Center Publishing Co. (October, 2001)
Authors: Deon Reynolds, Jon Christensen, and Trish Reynolds
Average review score:

wow!
This book is the most lovely pictoral tribute to the Great State of Nevada that I have ever seen. It exemplifies the rich physical and social geography as well as the cultural, institutional and entrepenurial spirit that this state holds so dear. Truly beautiful.

A Book Worthy of the Subject
"Nevada" has been sitting on my coffee table for about a year now - and it's served well. I've come home many days after being enmeshed in our modern world for 10 or more hours and been reminded of the expansiveness and beauty of the natural world that's only a 4 hour drive away from me. This is a well-written and beautifully photographed book. I have to admit that I'm fascinated with Nevada. With the great otherness and open space that is the Silver State.

I learned quite a bit and was entertained by the essays that divide the sections of photos with chapters including: "The Meaning of Nevada", "People and the Land", Basin and Range", and "Prospect and Chance." There is good history here about Nevada's people and it's geography, helped by quotes from the likes of John Muir, Mark Twain and authors of other Nevada oriented books as well as regular folks who like their home state.

However the real draw is in the photos. Scenic, evocative, large, well footnoted, just plain beautiful. I really felt like this is a book crafted by people with a love and appreciation of the place that is Nevada. As though they wanted to share their passion and knowledge with me. I also like the simplicity of the look and feel of the book. There's a frankness and openness that's reminiscent of the state of Nevada itself.

Enjoy!

wonderful essays on the Great Basin
This is a beautiful book.

However, Jon Christensen' s essay 'Basin and Range' really caught my attention. It turns out that this region is quite special, rich in unique species and lessons about evolution. Christensen compares the 'Great Basin sky islands' with the more famous islands of the Galapagos.

This book is the perfect combination of big color photographs and four well-written essays. The Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company of Portland did a fine job.

Marx Toys Sampler: A History & Price Guide
Published in Paperback by Krause Publications (November, 2000)
Author: Michelle Smith
Average review score:

Great Resource Book
I enjoyed this book because of it's detailed accounts of Marx toys that I grew up with. The price guide is also handy when I'm out looking for Marx items for my sisters' collections. History of a manufacturer is always interesting and the photographs help define the pieces I'm searching for. I appreciate a good book that shows great effort extended in presenting the information. I would recommend this book to the serious toy buyer and to new seekers of antique Marx toys. Kudos to the author!

The Marx Toy Sampler
I found this to be an ideal route to fond memories of my childhood. Many of the toys in this book were basis of several Christmas dreams. As a baby boomer, I have been collecting the dollhouses and furniture with the hope that my granddaughter will appreciate them, too! This is a good reference guide to have!

Marx Toys Sampler is a Winner for Collectors
This book would be a great companion book. Most Marx toys collectors would benefit from information on part numbers, years of production and viewing the wonderful selection of photographs featured in the book. The book covers about 30 years worth of knowledge on toys produced at the Glen Dale plant site. There is even a partial price listing on items that Ms. Smith and Mr. Whipkey were familiar with. All in all. A good book.

Moon Handbooks: Honduras (1st Ed.)
Published in Paperback by Avalon Travel Publishing (December, 1997)
Authors: Chris Humphrey and Moon Publications
Average review score:

Wonderful mix of history and travel information.
This book is full of wonderful facts and tidbits about Honduras. It contains information about the well known tourist spots such as Copan and the Bay Islands. But it also highlights lesser known out of the way tows such as La Esperanza (My hometown) and Gracias. I enjoyed it thoughrougly and refer to it often. As a bonus, It is full of historical facts from Pre-history , The Colonial and Republican eras and the not too distant past. I love it. Carlos Rosa Miami, FL

Terrific Book, very helpful
Honduras Handbook has been very helpful to me in my travel through Honduras. It is comprehensive, and especially strong in historical references. I look forward to the 2nd edition which should reflect the reality of tourism in Honduras after Mitch. However, most of the information continues to be accurate and helpful.

An invaluable source
I found this guidebook invaluable on my Honduran journey. The book was for the most part, highly accurate, informed, and well written. It is clear that the author traveled extensively throughout Honduras and was able to learn about the culture and the people. I also found the historical references fascinating. They enhanced my trip. I highly recommend this book to anyone visiting Honduras.
